What If? With Mitch Burrow And Mike Cummings

In this episode Mitch complains about the cost of home ownership, and he plays a portion of a set where the material was being performed for the first time. Kelly went to Austin, and she was able to do the open mic at the Comedy Mothership.

Mitch and Kelly are back. Kelly was paralyzed, and Mitch had a mole removed. Kelly isn't paralyzed, and Mitch's body is flawless once again. Billie has finally started acting like a two year old, and Mitch is a little overwhelmed. Kelly plays a recording of one of her latest open mic sets, and they talk about how hard the open mic scene can be sometimes.

Kelly explains to Mitch why it can be hard but necessary for parents not to have high expectations and not to think negatively about their children's development.  Mitch shares a very embarrassing recording of his comedy when he was two years in to demonstrate how much a comedian can improve over time. They talk about an upcoming show this weekend that Kelly will be hosting.

Billie said her first cuss word, and Kelly thinks Mitch has an unreasonable fear of the number 13. Kelly and Mitch review The Original Kings of Comedy.

Mitch and Kelly have fun talking about all the fun things Billie is starting to say, and how Mitch and Leigh really have to watch what they are saying around Billie now. Kelly talks about how much fun she and Richard had babysitting Billie.  Mitch and Kelly review Blue Collar Comedy Tour, and talk about the different styles of the comedians that were grouped together as the same genre of comedy.

Kelly helps Mitch learn the proper way to correct Billie's bad behavior. Mitch talks about the importance of social media in today's world of standup comedy.

Mitch's mom visits, and he talks about the relationship Leigh and he have with their in-laws. Mitch is trying to navigate his new life with a 2nd shift job while trying to maintain social connections and standup comedy. Kelly tells us how her first roast went. She tries to get on Kill Tony for a 2nd time. They talk about hecklers, and they really get into balancing standup, family, and work.

Billie is starting to open doors, so Kelly offers some advice on how to keep Billie alive. Mitch is worried about his mental health causing issues for Billie growing up. Kelly workshops some roast jokes for a local business owner and the comedians on the panel.

Mitch and Kelly discuss gender identifiers for when kids are at an age when it is hard to tell if they are a boy or a girl. Billie is saying "No" more than any other word. Together they breakdown and review Dane Cook's first Comedy Central Presents. Kelly has a new fun comedy adventure planned.

Mitch is experiencing the financial strain of parenthood. Kelly helps in in planning out the rest of his life with no money. Kelly and Mitch discuss the pros and cons of Topical and Evergreen comedy, and Kelly is preparing for a roast of a local business owner.

Mitch's voice sounds super sexy in this episode thanks to Mother Nature. He asks Kelly for help in how best to praise Billie's accomplishments. Kelly reports on her progress in finding a local venue to host an open mic, and together they workshop some jokes that Kelly wrote based on her observations during a road trip.

Mitch and Leigh are having problems teaching Billie how to share. Kelly watched two very different comedians perform jokes on similar topics, and Mitch breaks down how their deliveries help them sell the jokes.

Mitch had to call poison control because Billie is exploring her palate. Kelly spent the week making observations through her day to day life to write jokes about. 

Mitch found an online comedy class that comedian Jon Roy posted to Tumblr several years ago. Mitch uses this as a framework to help Kelly advance more in her open mic sets. Kelly gives Mitch some great advice to help Billie with her potty training.

Mitch listens to Kelly's newest open mic set, and he discusses how he feels that writing is the work and stage time is the reward. Kelly helps Mitch deal with Billies temper tantrums, and reemphasizes that shaking the child is not an option.

Mitch tries to teach Kelly joke structure, but he finds out that perhaps he doesn't really know how to explain what he does. Kelly teaches Mitch how to handle Billie when she is testing boundaries, and she does a much better job at teaching that than Mitch does at teaching joke structure.

Kelly gets to deal with her first heckler, and Mitch is sad because his toddler doesn't act like she likes him anymore.

Mitch Burrow is a comedian of fifteen years, and he is a new dad with an 18 month old daughter. Kelly Quinn is a radio host on 104.7 The Bear, she has two teenagers, and she's starting do do standup comedy. They've decided to take their experiences in comedy and parenting, so that they can help each other be the best version of each that they can.
