  • The Best & Worst of Guns N Roses with Craig Gass - Ep514

    27/01/2023 Duración: 01h41min

We're back with a great talk with a great guest as comedian Craig Gass joins us for The Best & Worst of Guns N Roses! Formed on the Sunset Strip in 1985, Guns N Roses quickly ascended to the top of the rock world with their debut album 'Appetite for Destruction.' Along with the success would come controversy as the band truly lived the rock star lifestyle. The combustible mix of attitude, agression, talent, and addiction made the band stand out from their peers. Even their stripped down look would signal to the music scene that times were changing. The band would go on to release the massive 'Use Your Illusion' parts 1 and 2 and graduate to stadium tours. But, just as quickly as they rose, the band started to fall apart. Members leaving one by one would cause a long dormant period for the band while singer Axl Rose labored over his opus 'Chinese Democracy.' By the time the album finally was released, it did more to confuse fans than excite them. Guns N Roses have found new success in recent years with the ret

  • The Best & Worst of Metallica Part 2 (1996-Today) - Ep510

    30/12/2022 Duración: 01h32min

We're back for the second half of our 2 part series on the Best & Worst of Metallica! This time, we're joined by our friend and fellow podcaster Joshua Toomey to cover the latter half of the kings of thrash career as we focus on 1996 through today. Riding high on the success of The Black Album, Metallica returned in 1996 with Load and Reload a year later. The band had a new look and a new, stripped down sound. While the changes didn't necessarily resonate with their hardcore fans, it opened the band to a new audience and success continued. They would continue to change with the release of St. Anger before returning to an earlier sound with Death Magnetic. However, they'd take a huge left turn courtesy of the collaboration with Lou Reed in Lulu. Righting the ship, they'd release Hardwired...to Self Destruct to the joy of their fan base. In 2022, they'd give fans a glimpse of the future with the release of the single 'Lux Aeterna.' This release would coincide with the announcement of their next album '72 Season

  • The Best & Worst of Metallica Part 1 (1983-1991) - Ep508

    15/12/2022 Duración: 01h36min

This week we begin a mega two part series as we look at The Best & Worst of Metallica! In this episode, we're joined by fellow podcaster Metal Mike Tyler from That Metal Station & The Plug podcast. This time, we're focusing on the formative years of the bay area legends. Metallica broke onto the scene in 1983 with the release of 'Kill Em All.' The melding of punk and NWOBHM influences created a bombastic new sound that would create the genre of thrash metal. The band wouldn't slow down; releasing 'Ride the Lightning' in 1984. In 1986, the band would unleash 'Master of Puppets' on a ravenous fan base. While riding high on the momentum of their first three albums, Metallica would encounter tragedy on the road as bassist Cliff Burton was killed in a bus crash in Sweden. The band would quickly regroup and recruit former Flotsam and Jetsam bassist Jason Newsted. Metallica would work out the kinks on 1987's 'The 5.98 EP: Garage Days Re-Revisited' before launching a full scale assault on the ears with 1988's '...And

  • The Best & Worst of Motley Crue 1990 & Beyond - Ep504

    11/11/2022 Duración: 01h24min

Every now and then we like to challenge ourselves. Our Best & Worst series has become a listener-favorite. Many times, we focus on the glory years of a band. But, NOT today! For as massive as Motley Crue was in the 1980's, the years beyond that have been a study in contrasts. After a decade of churning out memorable, fist-pumping arena rock anthems, the new decade of the 90's was a battle for the legendary Hollywood band. The 1990's started strong with the release of 'Decade of Decadence.' However, the dismissal of front man Vince Neil would signify a big fall from the top. The self-titled 1994 album showed off a new side to the band with their new addtion, John Corabi. However, commercial success would elude them. This would force the return of Vince Neil and an album that did more to confuse fans than excite them in 'Generation Swine.' Since then, only one full release 'Saints of Los Angeles' has been issued along with several greatest hits compilations, soundtracks, and singles that provided a smattering o

  • The Best & Worst of White Lion - Ep498

    29/09/2022 Duración: 01h20min

We're back this week for another Best & Worst episode; this time we're tackling the catalog of White Lion. White Lion, formed in New York in the early 1980's, featured all the ingredients that a band needed to propel them to stardom. Led by Danish-born front man Mike Tramp and the virtuosity of guitarist Vito Bratta, the band had the hooks, mind-bending guitar solos, and looks that were required to make it big in the 1980's. White Lion would start to build a following in the New York and New Jersey areas culminating with the release of 1985's debut album 'Fight to Survive.' After dealing with record company politics that would cause the album to be released overseas first before it was available in America, the band failed to hit it big but would garner attention in the rock press. With 1987's sophomore release 'Pride,' the band hit pay dirt. Produced by the legendary Michael Wagener, the album was replete with arena rock tunes that seemed a perfect fit for radio play. Once the single for 'Wait' hit MTV, the
