Deuteronomy 23:20-24:7 “Do not steal” …finally a nice, easy, non-invasive, non-confrontational subject to speak about!

Deuteronomy 5:1-6, 18 & 21:10-24:7 Surely there is no subject more commonly visited on TV and in movies than the subject of sex? From the innuendo to the explicit, we are bombarded with an invitation to accept a particular morality in this very personal area. Moses was concerned to establish a biblical ethic for the people of God. Does any of this remain for the church? Let’s explore this question boldly!

Deuteronomy 5:17 & 19:1-21:9 You’d think “Do not commit murder” would be an easy, readily embraced commandment, but we’re surrounded by so much killing in our world! What’s God’s heart behind this commandment, and how are we to live as kids in God’s kingdom?

Deuteronomy 5:16 & 16:18-20 God intends the role of parents as foundational to our society and especially to those of us who are followers of Jesus. This Sunday we continue to look at the human rights portions of the 10 Commandments. “Children, honour your parents!” What does it mean to “See Community As Family”? You’d be welcome to read in advance Deuteronomy 5:16 & 16:18-20.

Deuteronomy 5 & 16 This Sunday we turn from looking at God’s rights to Human rights, as we consider the 10 Commandments. Many of us grew up thinking of the Sabbath commandment as a binding, restricting, kill-joy, when in fact it was an extraordinary gift of grace. You’d be welcome to read in advance Deuteronomy 5:12-15 & 16:1-17.

Deuteronomy 5:8, Deuteronomy 13 As we honour God’s right to be accurately represented (the 10 C’s as Israel’s charter of rights), how we speak matters, as does how we live. We’re going to look at the 3rd Commandment (Deuteronomy 5:8) this Sunday via Moses’ commentary in Deuteronomy 13. I’d invite you to read it.

Deuteronomy 5:8-10 & Deuteronomy 12 Surely, in this day and age, no one worships idols!?! In our “Understanding” sermon series we’re opening up Deuteronomy 12 and the 2nd Commandment (Deut. 5:8-10) and asking the question “does it matter how I worship God?”

Deuteronomy 11 We’re going to invest the next 8 weeks in the 10 Commandments, looking at one each week, and endeavouring to understand how to live as God’s people. It’s an exciting and practical study that will yield fruit in your life if you will give yourself to it.

Psalm 65 and Titus 3:3-7 Prayer is more than requests, but it includes requests. This week, we will ask “God, are you listening?” Does God hear prayer? Does He answer prayer? And what does it mean to receive an answer, and what’s going on when it seems He has not answered.

Have you ever thought of prayer as “drudgery”? Perhaps admired those who seem to pray so fluently and effortlessly and seem to see answers to their prayers? Beginning this Sunday, and continuing for the following two Sundays, we’re going to ask God to show us how to pray …effectively …vibrantly …passionately …persistently!

Ephesians 2 Dr. Terry Young, former lead pastor to First Alliance Calgary, now professor of Pastoral Theology at Ambrose will bring the second of the 2 part series we began last Sunday called “Expanding Your Influence”. If you can, read Ephesians 2.

Proverbs 4:24-27 The choices you make today lead predictably to your tomorrow; there is a trajectory to your life. Someone with all the facts will be able to predict, within 10-15%, where you will end up. 9 times out of ten, all things being equal... not fatalism, and not group statistical outcomes, but general truisms (eg. Proverbs 4:24-27) lead to this conclusion.

Why did Jesus come? This Christmas Eve is a wonderful service of ancient and modern carols, drama, dance, candles, and Pastor Terry invites us to consider His reason for coming via His own words.
