One Fantastic Week

Today we're thrilled to talk to Matt Rhodes, Art Director of Bioware and Creator of the wonderful story Tellurion. Since 2004 Matt Rhodes has worked as a concept artist on Jade Empire, the Mass Effect trilogy, and the Dragon Age series. In his spare time, he works on his wonderful and beautifully illustrated personal project called Tellurion, which is an attempt to tell a story entirely through visuals.

Bobby’s art career started at the age of two with a box of crayons and his family’s white living room walls. He got his first professional art job at the age of seventeen, designing Disney, Warner Bros., and Star Wars toys. Bobby has since won a number of awards for his creative work, including an Emmy. He presently works in concept and character design, teaches digital painting online at Schoolism.com, publishes art books, and works on other top secret projects that we’re not allowed to talk about. Bobby currently lives and works in Toronto, Canada. He loves to meditate, read non-fiction, and ponder life. There are still lots of doodles on his desk and walls. Milivoj Ćeran is a professional artist since 2002. Work in traditional media. LIve in Zaprešić, Croatia. He is well known for his personal project: "Norse Mythology art book", which was successfully funded in 2017, in first 3 hours of the Kickstarter campaign. The KickstarTHOR campaign was run by Jon Schindehette/Art Order, from 14th Feb 2017 - 16th March 2017. It ended up with 1042 backers, seventy-five thousand dollars and more than one thousand three hundred books pre-sold. 

Steve Ellis is an American comic book artist and illustrator who has worked for Wizards of the Coast, DC Comics, Wildstorm, White Wolf, Moonstone Books and Marvel Comics. Ellis is the illustrator and co-creator behind The Silencers (with Fred Van Lente) and High Moon (with David Gallaher). Steve Ellis’ work has been featured on CD covers, computer games, trading cards, books, RPGs, magazines, toys and comics. Ellis worked for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Wizards of the Coast, and Upper Deck, among other companies. His Dungeons & Dragons work for Wizards of the Coast includes interior illustrations for Libris Mortis, Frostburn, Lords of Madness, Complete Adventurer, and Player's Handbook II.

Mouse Guard is a New York Times Bestselling, Eisner & Harvey Award-winning comic book series written and illustrated by David Petersen. Digging into his love of animal stories and medieval roleplaying games, David created a fantasy adventure world of cloaked, sword-wielding mice who protect the common mouse against threats of a predator, weather, & wilderness. Award-winning Illustrator, Artist, and Creator Kiri Østergaard Leonard happily shares her experiences making a living as an artist and pursuing a creative life. She grew up in a tiny village in Denmark, left her country behind to pursue art in the bustle of New York City and now resides in the delightful weirdness of Austin, Texas surrounded by sunshine and felines.

Jake Parker is an illustrator, writer, and teacher based in Utah. Since 1999 he has worked on everything from animated films to comics to picture books. He has lived in six states, working at the best studios with the most amazing and talented people in the country. Now he freelances out of his studio in Provo Utah. Together with illustrator Will Terry, he is the founder of SVS Learn. He also has a fantastic YouTube channel where he shares his knowledge of art.

On today's show, we are excited to bring back Art Director Zoë Robinson for a crit cast episode! Zoë Robinson has vast experience as an art director having worked for Fantasy Flights Games and Blizzard among others, she has started her own company called Art Sourcing where she helps match clients with artists for their projects. She also offers portfolio reviews for artists and career reviews.

Danielle Corsetto is the artist and creator of Girls With Slingshots. She created her first comic strip when she was 8, starting with a blatant rip-off of Garfield called Fat Cat. She started writing Hazelnuts in high school, and ran a semi-autobio comic about super-senior college kids called Ramblers in the student paper at Shepherd College (as well as Pop Image and World Famous Comics). She also briefly ran a comic called Larry and Caroline in the Hagerstown Herald-Mail newspaper.

We are honored to welcome the CEO and founder of Patreon on this episode of One Fantastic Week. Jack Conte is an American musician, singer-songwriter, disc jockey, entrepreneur, and filmmaker. He is also one half of Pomplamoose with his wife Nataly Dawn. Pete Mohrbacher recently had the pleasure of meeting Jack in person and now we are so fortunate as to be able to welcome Jack onto our show.

Upon graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design, Omar Rayyan settled on the island of Martha's Vineyard with his wife Sheila (her work can be found at www.sheilarayyan.com). The bucolic surroundings compliment and help inspire his "old world" aesthetic toward painting. Although looking to the past for inspiration and guidance from the great oil painters of the Northern Renaissance and the Romantic and Symbolist painters of the 19th century, he has picked watercolor as his medium of choice.

Sam Guay is an artist focused on work that explores our inner, emotional worlds. Much of her childhood was spent alone in the woods or exploring the possibilities of dreams. She has drawn on these personal experiences to create a visual language of dark nature, hypnagogic patterns, and moody atmospheres. Her intention with her work, whether it be a single painting, a story, or a large project is to invite quiet conversations with those private worlds where we can find ourselves most readily and connect more meaningfully to the world around us.

Today we are joined by Lauren Panepinto and Marc Scheff to check in on their project Drawn + Drafted. Think of them as translators, diplomats, even midwives. They are the defenders of both a client’s dreams and an artists' rights. They have been both clients and artists ourselves, and there is nothing more rewarding to them than fostering collaboration that is truly positive and rewarding to all parties involved.
