So now the artist are basically trying to take over the station. I feel em, I mean who else give you national feedback on your music for free! Where else can you just email an MP3 into an online radio station and it gets played, discussed, then possibly blasted across a network...for FREE? So they are basically FLOODING my damn INBOX with so much music, they just want to be heard. Some of them are good, some of the music deserves every gun shot they get. It's the truth...but lack of music submissions, NOT THE ISSUE here at K-100 Radio. So now here we are again for the another installment of "ILL or KILL" the INDIE MUSIC REVIEW segment of the show. They send us music, we play it, people call in and say if it's "ILL" (good) or should it be "KILLED" (wack) Since most of these artist are not yet pros, most of them get killed because the quality of their music sucks. The entertainment industry is pretty hellish. You only have so many slots at the top, and those slots are NEVER permanent. Even worse is what you have to do the get remotely close to those slots, and even still nothing is guaranteed. The industry is not for the faint at heart. Some would say that it's not for the loyal or the moral either. It's hard to have those as qualities and be in the entertainment industry. The word friend will quickly become used to describe someone you now want to fight and bad mouth. There are soooo many PLAYERS in the game. Behind the scenes, in front of the camera, puppets and puppeteers , all on a stage with basically no real script. In a business where death and life are sensationalized (see Whitney Houston and Blue Ivy Carter as recent examples) what one could even remotely consider a NORMAL life is non existent. These are songs that the CALLERS AND LISTENING AUDIENCE have deemed "ILL" (Good) on the Indie Music Review segment of K-100, "ILL or KILL". Basically I play songs in that segment, and then the people call in and tell me if its whack our not. If it's good, they have paid the toll and thus a ride on this segment, THE SUBWAY. I can't even go a week without doing this segment at this point. The "ILL or KILL" series has taken on a life of it's own and quickly becoming the favored portion of K-100 Radio. The more artist that hear about it, and anticipate their chance to be subjected to HONEST FEEDBACK about their music, the more people send in music wanting to be on it. I used to have to wait AT LEAST a week for enough songs. Now I have enough good music to run the day after I air this segment. Why you ask? Because people want feedback about their music! PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW IF THEY HAVE WHAT IT TAKES, CAN THEIR SONG STAND UP TO AN UNBIASED AUDIENCE. That is what the core mission of "ILL or KILL" is. That's why I DON'T JUDGE THE SONGS, all I do is deliver a platform for CONSUMERS (and a few artist that hit the lines) to give their opinion of the music. We are emotional creatures. Besides out basic instincts, it is our laundry list of EMOTIONS that truly separates us from other mammals. The number one emotion that can cause us joy or pain is LOVE. Love is a strange thing, because it can become so many other things. LOVE can become jealousy, and hate. The lack of love can cause envy. Today is Valentines Day, and there was something seriously WRONG with my social networks today. On a day that is supposed to be about LOVE, I had news feeds and timelines full of HATE. Hate for people that wanted to show love or was showed love today. We know Valentines Day is a commercial holiday, we know that its over the top. You know the rules: Artist send us music, and we play that music on the air. The CALLERS (NOT THE HOST) vote if the song is "ILL" (not bad meaning BAD but bad meaning GOOD) or should it be "KILLED" (meaning this shit is really BAD). Sounds simple enough right? It is. Last time we ran this segment A LOT OF ARTIST GOT KILLED. So I'm telling ya now its not so easy. You see K-100 has listeners from ALL OVER THE COUNTRY that call in to vote, so your song my sound good to people in your HOOD, or ZONE, or SET, or BOROUGH..but that don't mean it will sound good to everyone on the line! IT HAS TO REALLY BE GOOD in order to make people from all over give it an ILL. I cant lie if you don't use TWITTER then you pretty much WON'T get this whole show at ALL! But if you do then you know that HASH TAGS are a big part of the way it operates. Basically if you put the # symbol in front of any phrase on the site when you tweet it makes it a searchable hashtag. There are some that people use OVER and OVER like #TEAM SINGLE (even though they may not be) or #teamgetmoney (even though they may be broke) and so on. Twitter is a format that is quickly becoming a way of life like Facebook is for so many. I really don't care for it as much as Facebook because of the short text limit, but i get why it has to be that way. For the most part I have Twitter out of Necessity because in this industry not having one is just not acceptable at this point. The promotional tool it is alone warrants my two accounts. I have to start off this segment with a deep *sigh*. It;s out of my control people...there is nothing I can do about it. I feel powerless, I feel out of touch, because nothing I do or say seems to be helping to put an end to all this RATCHETNESS! Some of you have a different name for it, "GHETTO" "WILD" "HOOD RATS" "CRUNK" whatever the hell you call it when a female acts ridiculously silly and out of control. But its our own fault you see. First, we started by openly disrespecting our women by calling them everything but women. Then we left em all to raise out kids alone and a whole new generation grew up without a father around and made it worse. THEN we starting actually giving them PROPS for being RATCHET! We started giving them TV shows, we starting saying that they was just "some real ass bitches" (somehow that got translated into being a good thing?). It is a reward for the struggle some artist have to go through to even make a song, let alone get it right. The songs that are played on THE SUBWAY have already been vetted by the K-100 audience, because in order to get put into rotation on THIS segment, you have to PAY THE TOLL on ILL or KILL. So today is the day after the first State Of The Union address by President Obama, and so many things were said in it I just couldn't call myself a political junkie and not bring it to my platform. In case you just started hearing of K-100, I am an Obama supporter, I voted for him, and I also have been critical of him when I didn't agree with a move he made. That's just how I am, NO ONE is above it, but make no mistake, I WANT HIM TO BE AS SUCCESSFUL AS POSSIBLE. The PROBLEM with that, is he is not a KING, he is just a PRESIDENT, which means he has to work with CONGRESS & the SENATE, and those idiots make me sick (DEMS & REP). So in short I will address some of the things I saw and heard in the presidents address last night. He talked about a few things that I know will NEVER come to pass in this country, but hey at least he brought them up. I couldn't help but watch the Republicans in the room squirm at words like "pay your fair share of taxes" and "stop helping companies that ship jobs over seas". T

So, in the endless cycle of continually morphing terms of slang in our ebonic language, there has yet again emerged a new use of an old word. Once again we have taken a word from the English language and made it into what WE deem it to mean. It's a common word, one you learn in maybe 2nd grade: BOSS. Yes..the word BOSS has be jacked, chopped and screwed then filtered through the proverbial hip-hop cycle then mixed back into to mean all kinds of s**t. But thats what we do in our culture, we start using a word in some song, it catches on, then we start applying it to things and people that it should NEVER be attached to. We did it with HATE, we did it with PIMP, we did it with B***H and WHORE. This is just one of the latest examples. So here it is, this is the age of the internet. We have been here for a while now, over 20 years, and we have seen some a lot from mankind life altering creation. Let me be clear: I AM A FAN OF FREE SPEECH, FREE INTERNET, I HATE SUPER RICH CORPORATIONS AND CAPITALISM, AND I USE PIRATED SOFTWARE ALL THE TIME. Yes people...K-100 Radio is back and ready to crank up for 2012! So much has happened with this show in the past 12 months, you really wouldn't believe it. The behind the scenes moves I have been making, the building up of the network and more have set K-100 up to have a damn good year hopefully. I introduced a few new segments: "ILL OR KILL" , "THE SUBWAY" and "REALLY THOUGH" and they all were well received. I focused more on breaking indie music at the end of the year for reasons both personal and business. This year I will have balance. For every Music episode there will be a talk episode, since some of my fanbase felt left out on both ends. Thats just how it will be.
