I just got that "I'm in big trouble" feeling while reading Chapter 4 of Acts! Peter and John were super close to being in jail for a significant time. Acts 4:18 "Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus." I think we all have something to learn from these 2 men. I think it is our natural tendency to assume our own innocence in most matters. There are times when you realize that you were at fault, this passage reveals to me one of those times. Acts 3:15 "You killed the author of life..." Peter tells the Jews around him that they made a big mistake! Jesus was whom He said He was, and His resurrection proved it. Listen, you need to be careful what you put on the internet. Anything can go far and fast. After it is posted to the world there is no taking it back, it will be there forever! Peter used his opportunity, everybody was around during the Pentecost, to share the message. Acts 2:14 "Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say..." Peter used his platform, are we using ours? We all can record our testimony or share our faith in our own unique way by simply recording ourselves without any interruptions. Can you think of anything that brings more anticipation than a baby? You never know when the baby is coming! Sure they give you a due date but that is rarely the day when the baby comes. Jesus tells His disciples that he will return. They then proceed to live a life where they live in anticipation. Acts 1:10-11 "They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” Whether they were standing in awe of what just took place or if they were standing there waiting for His return, they lived their life in anticipation afterward. Peter cannot wait when he recognizes Jesus! He drops what he is doing and pursues Jesus. How busy are we in our life? Are we willing to drop everything to pursue Him when we recognize Him? After reading about Mary in chapter 20 of John, it hit me that I may have had several Mary moments in my life where God was right there in front of me and I didn't recognize Him. John 20:14 "At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus." With children that love to fight one another, I talk about our attempt to "brainwash" them into loving one another. We speak unity into them! We tell them they are going to be best friends when they grow up, that is our heart's desire. This is a tough world to live in with lots of troubles, trials, and tribulations. It's just tough and people can be deceiving and mean. May we as a family is unified, we should be lifting each other up! John 17:22-23 "I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity..." May we as a church be there for each other! What a powerful force we would be if we were just there for one another. If we were to work together for the sake of the lost. How do you handle trials? I talk a little about a financial trial I have experienced and relate it to something Jesus was warning His disciples about, the trials that they were about to face. I have it much easier in comparison. John 16:33 "'I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.'" When going through a rough time, Jesus reminds tHis Disciples that they (including us) are not alone. We can have peace, even through trials, through Christ. Comfort is something we seek consistently throughout out life. Does God want us to have a cushy comfortable life? A life chasing God... what does it look like? Is it an easier life? I lOVE breakfast sandwiches! They are soooo delicious. is it possible we use the word "love" so much that we may have lost the meaning to it? John 15:12-14 "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command." Love is selflessness when we say we love someone, what are we really saying? Are we saying I enjoy your company or I like the way you make me feel? When you love someone, you will put there needs before your own. Love is a choice. We are called to Love God and Love Others. Am I grateful? I think it is impossible to be ungrateful if you have a proper perspective on our lives. What God has done for us is such a huge blessing, having a proper understanding of it will change your entire outlook on life. John 12:5 "“Why wasn’t this perfume sold and the money given to the poor?
