One of the things Jesus says in Chapter 10... “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep." (John 10:14-15) As believers, we can take comfort in knowing that Jesus has our back (way better than Spiderman). As the shepherd, He leads and guides but also PROTECTS! I talk about my kids going for swim lessons again! My kids must not have trust me, they will not even get in the pool! We have a great example of someone having faith in Jesus. Wow! what an example the Samaritan women is for us. She encountered Jesus, was changed, then told everyone. Fear did not stop her from changing her community. John 4:39-42 "Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” So when the Samaritans came to him, they urged him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. And because of his words many more became believers. They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.”" Is fear holding you back? Eating is obviously crucial in our survival. You do not need to eat what is good for you though, you can eat junk and survive. To thrive in life, we out to eat the right things. Jesus speaks about what fuels Him and it is not food, doing the will of His Father is what ultimately fuels Him, which begs the question... What fuels you? John 4:31-34 "Meanwhile his disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat something.” But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” Then his disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought him food?” “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work." I talk about an extreme hiking trip that I took with Mike Tison (not the boxer) through his ministry. See what Mike is doing now here: http://missionamped.com/ It was through that trip that I realized the necessity of water! Our body was made to drink water on a regular basis. We take for granted the water supply and availability to us in our 1st world country. I talk about how Jesus tells this women at the well that He could supply her with water that would never end. We know that Jesus is referring to eternal life that He gave us. Like water is a necessity of life, so is our relationship God. John 4:13-15 "Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”"

"Where does it point?" John the baptist had his ministry taken away! Jesus came and people stopped following John and started following Jesus. Instead of being discouraged, John was glad because it was always his goal that his life would point to Jesus! I think we can all learn a little from John, may our goal in life be ideal that our life elevates Jesus and not ourselves. John 3:27-30 "To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven. You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’ The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. "Night Lights" Why is it so scary when you are in pitch darkness? Partly because of what could be hiding in the darkness. Jesus speaks about Light revealing what is in the darkness. John 3:19-21 "This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God." Let us all pursue to live a life with nothing to hide! "Stay Curious" My younger children are naturally curious, sometimes annoyingly so. However, I think we can learn from children, In chapter 3 of John we hear from Nicodemus. He was a religious leader at the time and he is having a conversation with Jesus. John 3:1-9 It stood out to me that an expert in the Bible and is leadership in the church to live a life pursuing more about God, keep asking questions, stay curious. Those are not the words I want to hear from God, that's for sure! These were the words used when Jesus turned over the money changers tables and ran out their cattle and livestock. The universe is so big! We can seem so insignificant in light of the physical size we are in comparison to what is out there. There are times when I wonder if God is even listening to my prayers. My little life here seems to really not matter when thinking about the overwhelming size of the universe. John 1:47-51 (NIV) "When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” “How do you know me?” Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.” Then Nathanael declared, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.” Jesus said, “You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.” He then added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”" I believe, like Nathanael, God knows us and hears us!

Jesus had humble beginnings, from a barn to a growing up in a town where nearly nothing good had come from. Our situation and circumstances does not disqualify you from God using you. If you have the heart and the courage to be willing to have him use you, He will. Maybe it's just me or because I am a guy, I just am not much of a talker. I would much rather do something than talk about things, prayer is difficult for me to make a regular part of my day. James 5:17-20 "Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops. Parenting is tough, when my kids are not listening, it is natural to threaten them with some crazy consequences. However, if we are not going to go through with what we say, they have no meaning. Our words become empty with less power and weight. James 5:12 "Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned." When you say something, be sure to follow through with it.
