In today’s episode, we talk about things that can make you uncomfortable on the road to finding your ideal clientele. Sometimes that looks like:-Referring long time (and loved) clients to other stylists who do what the client wants, but better.-Letting go of that ingrained stylist mentality that only volume = success-Honing in on what you love and what your best at-Restructuring your pricingA concept from Seth Godin that has always stuck with me is the idea that the smallest viable audience is really all you need. Are you ready to make some changes to attract your ideal client? • Lindsay Mayuga - Rose-Colored Glasses

    26/09/2022 Duración: 12min

Has anyone ever told you, "you see the world through rose-colored glasses?" Well, then that makes two of us. I remember doing pre-marriage classes, and one of the personality questionnaires showed a high tendency to wear rose-colored glasses. I didn't give that test much thought; not until my oh-so-perfect life came crashing down did I give that finding from years before any thought. Well, in hindsight, it makes a TON of sense and what was once a beneficial coping mechanism for a challenging childhood became my most detrimental quilty. Seeing things this way keeps you from seeing the truth, which does you a huge disservice. Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - Eliminate, Outsource, or Change Your Relationship

    19/09/2022 Duración: 11min

In this life, we have three options when it comes to the stuff we do. We can outsource, eliminate, or change our relationship with the thing! The bottom line is we have way more say in how our lives play out. We sometimes cling to the known instead of letting it go and be done. Other times we keep doing a task that we aren't very good at instead of giving it to someone who can do it more efficiently than us. Last, excepting something changes our relationship with the thing. This life is not one size fits all; we have to know ourselves well enough to know which is which. This is the work, my friends.Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - Being of Service

    12/09/2022 Duración: 12min

Is it just me, or does customer service seem at an all-time low? Between the experiences I have in my day-to-day life and how I see some stylists communicating with their clients via social media. It's almost like service altogether needs a facelift. I find times like these a beautiful time to show up and be of service. This has always been my go-to as opposed to some get-rich-quick promotion. Showing up with empathy and being of service are the best ways to play the long game!Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - Nothing Can Prepare You

    05/09/2022 Duración: 15min

Stop overthinking it and get in the damn game! Yes, we want to move forward in the most thoughtful way and with the most information possible, but we don't know what we don't know. That is why I love the idea that nothing can prepare you for where you haven't been. Nothing! So, that frees me up to try a bunch of stuff, learn on the fly, and make adjustments as I go!Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - The Slow Down

    29/08/2022 Duración: 13min

When you think of slowing down, what comes up for you? Wow, how cool to be able to appreciate the simple stuff, or do you feel behind? It is fascinating because "slowing down" meant very different things at different times in my life. Going into fall, I think it is an excellent time to clarify what is important to us and how to show up more presently. When we slow down and zoom out, we can gain clarity in our lives and move forward in a more aligned way; speed is not the driving force. It's more about the direction we are going in.Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - It's Not Over

    22/08/2022 Duración: 19min

Do you give up right before you make it happen? I firmly believe in not calling the game unless you have to call the game! The perfect example was recently when I was up shit creek for child care before my busy day in the salon. I had one hour to line something up and be at the salon. So, what did I do? I threw a hail mary pass and, against all odds, pulled a rabbit out of my hat. It gets me thinking about how often we count ourselves out when there are a few seconds left in the game, and we could turn it around. Sorry for all the sports talk, but I think it illustrates the point beautifully. Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - The Matrix

    15/08/2022 Duración: 16min

The truth is a lot is programmed into us vs. being truly a desire of our own. The matrix says obey, consume, stay asleep,  compare yourself to others, watch the news, work hard, drink to have fun, procreate, do everything to stay young, live in the future, live in the past, and give us your energy. I used to live in a world where I thought, well... you would love to be living my life if you could too! I have since been humbled a million times over in this life and now see my life as it was, not the avatar I had created.Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - Stop Getting It Over With

    08/08/2022 Duración: 11min

There are years of my life that I gutted things out, thinking once I get this over with, I will ______. I can remember feeling like I didn't have a choice regarding how I lived my life. This usually starts in our childhoods, shocker! I have since learned that when I think, "I need to get this over with," it tends to be a strong indicator that something is off. These patterns, AND we all have them, are worth getting to know so that we don't keep living out of autopilot. We lose more and more trust in ourselves when we don't slow down to tune in.  Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - Forgiveness

    01/08/2022 Duración: 14min

This is a tough one; I wish I could answer how to do this thing called forgiveness magically. All I can do is share with you what has worked and continues to help me in my journey with forgiving. I have found grieving to be a HUGE ingredient in forgiveness. The answer to most things is to grieve, and it's not easy. When we do this work, we can move through forgiveness with compassion, humility, and wishing others well. As I said, this is not easy, but it is the work. The work that I continue to do and hope helps lighten the load on the journey as well. Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - Connection vs Control

    25/07/2022 Duración: 13min

I can look back over the first twelve years of my career and see where my "selflessness" was something else entirely. I was controlling the interaction and getting a lot out of being the gal that can do it all! I was the person that anticipated your appointment time and your beverage of choice. I have since learned that I was forfeiting genuine, meaningful connections when I did that. The very thing I craved most was canceled out by my inability to show up to the moment honestly, with limits and preferences. It turns out I wasn't as selfless as I thought I was.Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - Make The Damn Space

    18/07/2022 Duración: 15min

I have been doing my podcast on a folding chair next to my treadmill since covid began. I had a moment of clarity when I said I need space to make the stuff I want to! Fast forward, I grabbed a console table from the dining room and all the art lying around to create a gallery wall in my new office space (in my guestroom). I had everything I needed to make this happen, and it got me thinking... How often is the solution to our lack, something we already have? I now have a literal space to create and go to be with myself. I share this because maybe there is a console table somewhere in your world that's asking to be seen another way, and all it involves is a little creativity. Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - Tune Out & Tune In

    11/07/2022 Duración: 11min

One of the most important skills I believe we must acquire in living out our dreams is to tune out other people's limiting beliefs. At every big move in my life, I have been met with a little voice, whether real or not, saying, "you can't do that," and I have had to choose to tune it out and believe in the possibilities! I tune in to what I think can happen, working towards what is possible. I am so glad that I have and continue to do this because the older I get, the more I realize that other people are telling you what they believe is possible and that it never had anything to do with me anyway! Life is a real tricky bitch sometimes, isn't it?Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - Guardrails

    04/07/2022 Duración: 11min

Guardrails, you got any? I believe that we have to have them to keep us living on the up and up. When it comes to my day-to-day life, things have been going swimmingly, but throw in a business trip with my husband, and the whole thing goes to shit! What I mean is that when we don't have a designated plan for how we handle xy&z, we find ourselves falling right back into old habits that do not serve us. I am giving myself grace and guardrails moving forward!Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - Happy Birthday!

    27/06/2022 Duración: 19min

It's my birthday, and I'll cry if I want to. I'm just kidding; I don't feel like crying at all. This week I turned thirty-five, and I am pumped to share some of what I have learned over the last five years. When I turned thirty, I had a plan... and I thought I had executed it. I was a girl boss business owner, had the power couple marriage, and really I had killed it, or so I thought. I am looking back over the last five years and sharing some of my most significant shifts this week! One of them was planning my life for the person I "thought" I was vs. the person I was. In this episode, I am going deep! Happy Thirty-fifth birthday to me!Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Michelle Wheatley - Okay Ladies Now Let's Get in Formation

    13/06/2022 Duración: 44min

I believe that the work we do that no one sees makes the stuff people admire possible. Michelle Wheatley is a walking example of this right here. She has done a phenomenal job of putting herself into a position that allows her to act when the opportunity arises. Michelle never had aspirations of owning a hair salon, but her money management skills had her making moves! We could all learn a lot about living within our means and thinking big as Michelle has in her career and life. Did I mention Michelle has six kids?Follow along on Instagram: @beautybusinessguideFollow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!

  • Lindsay Mayuga - Get Right With YOU!

    30/05/2022 Duración: 14min

What are we jimmy rigging together in our lives to make things work? I recently started working out with a trainer, and David has mentioned that I have been tucking my hips pretty intensely for years! I was doing that, so my lower back wouldn't hurt. Turns out that my tucking solved one problem but put the "stress" elsewhere. It got me thinking about how often we do this kind of thing in our own lives. Let me answer that ALOT! We adapt and adopt unhealthy ways of coping. Follow along on Instagram: @LindsaymakeswavesStay connected with all the latest happenings with LindsayShe Nets Worth: hairstylist's guide to going independent waitlist!
