 This month, I was in a wild mood to just record a long mix that included all the kinds of music I like to play, from downtempo to progressive house to various styles of trance. I didn't have a target length in mind, I just gathered songs that went well together and went for it. It was a fun challenge trying to juggle the crazy BPM swings without breaking up the flow, and to that end, I think it was a success.  The initial premise behind Frontiers was to make DJ mixes that were more than just a weekly/monthly showcase of the latest music - I wanted to make something people (including myself) could enjoy listening to again and again. While the formula for that has undergone revisions and iterations over the last 49 episodes, the underlying principle hasn't.For this month's episode, I wanted to experiment a little. Rather than have one downtempo track, why not have...four? Instead of starting at 120bpm, why not start around 100?  Oops, it's been 3 months since the last Frontiers episode. Granted, I had a couple live shows in-between, so I haven't been completely AWOL, but this was a bit of an unintended - but also very necessary - break nonetheless. I think the quality of this mix makes up for it though.

My music studio situation at home has been turned upside-down the last four weeks due to some construction, so I grabbed my travel DJ controller and sat down in a hot room that has terrible acoustics to crank this one out.  2023 continues being chaotic for me into April...which is why I'm once again a week late on this Frontiers episode. That said, the extra time gave me a chance to try out some new techniques in the mix, so there are more cuts, more effects, and an even smoother intro and outro than normal.
